InIn Mind and World John McDowell argues that Kant’s transcendental standpoint, according to which things as they are in themselves are not structured according to space, time and the categories, undermines the cogency of his view of the relation of thought to world. I argue that, on a proper understanding of the text of the Critique, in particular the place of the assumption of an extramental reality in Kant’s thought, McDowell’s criticism fails.
